The GEF Research Grant provides seed funding for early career researchers at Nigerian institutions. We fund the practical costs that determine whether research happens at all.

Eligible costs

  • Fieldwork and data collection
  • Laboratory consumables and small equipment
  • Software and dataset access
  • Research assistant stipends
  • Ethics approval fees
  • Transcription and analysis services

Grants cannot be used for personal tuition or salaries.

What we look for

A clear, feasible research question; a realistic budget; potential for real-world or scholarly impact; and evidence the applicant can complete the work within the timeline.

Reporting

Grantees submit a brief mid-point update and a final report, and acknowledge the foundation in resulting publications.
